Students in second and third grade classes learned about carrots, including nutrition information (links here) and how carrots were part of the vegetable group (links here). Students discussed adjectives to describe carrots, reviewed principles of ‘personification’ and talked about facts versus opinions about carrots. Teachers described the selling intent of advertising and showed various types of popular advertising techniques (e.g., celebrity, characters, exaggeration). Students created print advertisements or posters for carrots. The session lasted about 60-75 minutes in total.
