The students in this second grade class were planting a garden as part of a science unit.
The teacher integrated nutrition and advertising literacy into the existing project. She asked the students to pick one of their favorite seeds and then learn some facts about the fruit or vegetable. The teacher also brought in magazine advertising and they talked about the different ways that advertising tried to ‘sell’ a product.
They also discussed their own opinions about the ads and what made a ‘good’ or ‘bad’ advertisement.
